Alex Gonzaga and Matthaios allegedly rift is all scripted.
A few weeks ago, Alex Gonzaga and Matthaios went head-to-head on social media, as they posted videos of themselves calling out each other’s rap styles.
But it seems like an exciting new project between the two was brewing behind the scenes.
Alex capped off the heated rap battle with the first hint of the possible collaboration last June 11.
Guys relax tayo! Nag-usap na kami. Chill na tayo abangan nyo nalang susunod na mangyayari hehehe please no hate just LOVE!!!
Then just last week, she followed up that tweet with a short video listening to a song, saying “Nakaka-LSS talaga ‘yung bagong kanta ng #OPPOA92 meron pang pa-rap,” to which Matthaios echoed, “Yes sir!”
Matthaios, in response, called it a collaboration where “South meets East”— referring to their hometowns.
He is known for performing the viral hit “Catriona” that was inspired by none other than Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray. The song also inspired a dance trend on social media under the hashtag #CatrionaDance.
To recall, fans of both parties started buzzing when Matthaios, the rapper behind the viral hit “Catriona,” posted a tweet mentioning Alex’s song “AMFEE” in early June.
It resulted in an online rap battle, with the artists trading barbs and firing off rap verses in a series of video clips posted on Twitter throughout the course of several days, intriguing netizens.
Things escalated real quick as the “Chambe” hitmaker and “Catriona” rapper engaged in a full-blown rap battle.
To the relief and surprise of their fans, Alex and Matthaios were actually setting the stage for their would-be collaboration.
The result? A catchy song to promote the new smartphone brand.
