On Monday 20 January, actors James Reid and Nadine Lustre announced that, following weeks of speculation on entertainment sites and social media that they broke up.
The long-lasting on-screen pair says in a joint statement on Tonight With Boy Abunda: “It’s true that we have split up but not for all the reasons that are being spread on the tabloids and social media but because after quiet and mature conversations, we decided to focus on ourselves not only for our careers but more for our personal growth as we are still young and we want to achieve as much as we can.”
Both of them say they’re on “good terms” and “very good friends” still. James and Nadine also says they “continue to work together in music in particular.”
The two also thanked their fans for their support “now and in the future.”
The year 2020 began with a report by Pep, which said that the two had been separated, citing sources. Their fans drew up pictures which seemed to conflict with the statements of Pep, particularly that the two had spent their vacation apart.
The Philippine Star’s Ricky Lo insisted on Pep report being true a few days later in a column. He mentioned Nadine’s mental-health problems from the past when he debated the supposed breakup in the print version of his column.
It was this detail that led Nadine to lambast Lo on her account on Instagram. She then said that Lo’s claims-the two held it discreet from the breakdown to the supposed reason – were false.
Nadine has always been open about her “[struggle] with depression.” She wrote in the past: “If you ever hit rock bottom, don’t be ashamed of opening up to your loved ones. If anyone understands and cares about what you’re going through, it’s them. You are who/what you say you are.”
Nadine and James are known collectively as “JaDine,” a love showcase team that has flourished on and off the screen. Both were transparent, although their relationship was low-key. “Team Real” was tagged by their followers.
Nadine and James are today one of the biggest stars in the Philippines.
