Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin might be addressed as a real-life “Darna” for her generous donations to charity and strong advocacies towards social change.
Angel Locsin, has been named in Forbes’ 13th Annual Heroes of Philanthropy list featuring “30 Outstanding Altruists” in the Asia Pacific together with second-generation tycoon Hans Sy of the SM Group.
The said list acknowledges the names of businessmen, billionaires, and celebrities who have dedicated a difference in addressing social issues across the region.
“Our aim is to highlight those giving their own money, not their company’s (unless they are the majority owners of a privately-held firm).”
Forbes said after releasing the new list, which reviewed the monetary value of their contribution and the depth of them being involved in different causes.
True to her name, Forbes recognizes the 34-year-old Angel Locsin for her generous donation worth 1 Million Peso and personally delivered relief goods to residents of Mindanao affected by the strong earthquakes last October.
The global magazine shared, “Locsin, whose mother was adopted by a family from the island, has long helped the region, which has been riven by sectarian strife for decades.”
They also noted the multi-awarded actress previously extended helps to displaced victims of Marawi Siege that happened in 2017.
According to Forbes, Angel has donated a total of 15 million in the past 10 years through different charities including educational scholarships and aid to typhoon victims. She also pushes causes for the rites of indigenous peoples and fighting violence against women and children.
Locsin was known for portraying the iconic character of “Darna” for a TV series, later on saying that one doesn’t need to wear costumes to be a superhero. She would pay a visit to communities and give aids with plain clothes and has no media coverage behind her.
